Viki’s Vision
I am on a mission to improve healthcare. My vision includes three main goals.
#1. I want to change healthcare into a place where respect for others includes compassionate, respectful communication, listening to people’s wishes and honoring those wishes when medically appropriate. Along the way I want to put the heart back into medicine and help healthcare professionals experience the profound nature of their work as they re-connect with their patients.
#2. I want to empower people to have a good death. I want to make sure everyone has important information regarding the dying process, access to hospice care and appropriate support. And I want to make sure everyone in America has an Advance Directive so healthcare professionals will know what you want and you can have power over your life even when you have lost your voice.
#3. I want to change nursing homes into places where one can die with dignity and compassion. A place of love and caring and respect for people. I want to help the caregivers who work so hard to take care of our loved ones realize the profound and meaningful nature of their work so they can be motivated to improve their facilities.
This is my vision for how we should care for and about each other. As patients and family members, we need to be respectful and cooperative when receiving medical care. As healthcare professionals, we have to listen to the patient better and help them understand when medicine can help and when all we can do is to help them have a good death. This is possible and I am here to help. Feel free to contact me with your questions or ethical dilemmas. Thanks for listening.
