On August 18th, 9AM Pacific, I will be interviewing Jerry Wayne from the North Valley Jewish Community Center, Inc. The North Valley Jewish Community Center (NVJCC) is a non-profit organization, founded upon Jewish ethics and values. “The-J”, Your Jewish Community Center is committed to meeting the ever changing needs of the entire Jewish Community, to strengthening Jewish identity and to enrich the quality of Jewish life. Our objective is to facilitate programs that benefit our children, families, adults, and seniors, and in so doing to support the entire community for generations to come.

If you are a senior looking for new friends and new things to do, we invite you to join the NVJCC Senior Club.
 
Our active group of seniors 70+ has traveled to San Diego to see The Dead Sea Scrolls, to Palm Springs to see The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies, and enjoyed plays in Glendale at the Glendale Center Theater.  We have visited the Skirball Museum, enjoyed lunches at neighborhood restaurants and have heard many wonderful speakers on current or provocative events.  We have also celebrated holidays together and enjoyed new friendships.

We meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at Temple Ramat Zion, corner of Devonshire Blvd and White Oak in Northridge at 1:00 P.M. Come join us.  Friendships are very important and you can make some long lasting ones at our Seniors Club.

In 2003 Maria Wall, President of the CM Wall Company Inc, saw a need to give our young people a voice and purpose outside of the vicious cycles they were accustomed to in addition to the lack of adult guidance for a host of reasons. Although Mrs. Wall operated her program under the umbrella of other established non profit programs, she felt a need to do more. Therefore in 2008 she formed The Wall Foundation Inc. An organization that realized these are tough and hard times for our youth and their families. Mrs.
Wall is the little girl with big dreams who grew up to make them reality!

This Monday, Dr. Michael Perskin will be featuring Viki Kind on his show “Healthy Aging” on Monday, June 28, 2010 from 5-6pm EST.

Every Monday from 4 – 6 pm ET, Dr. Michael Perskin joins the Doctor Radio lineup on SIRIUS Satellite Radio to answer listener questions about aging and the care of the elderly. Dr Perskin is a specialist in geriatric medicine and works with individuals as well as family members caring for their loved ones. Sometimes the questions we have can be as simple as “why do my knees hurt?”, and sometimes they are as difficult as “my mother can’t remember who I am.” Knowing where to turn when medicine and age intersect is a prescription for less stress, better care and a healthier life.

Michael H. Perskin, MD, is the Director of the Faculty Group Practice for the Department of Medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center, as well as Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine.

Dr. Perskin’s clinical practice is devoted to individualized patient-centered care. His focus is on prevention, comprehensive geriatric care management, and diagnosis.
